Adobe Photoshop: How to Change the Color of Wheels on a Vehicle

Difficulty Level

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• Adobe Photoshop
• computer
• image

Procedure:

• first start by picking a photo you want to use for changing/editing the color
• make a copy of the image layer by dragging it down to the "new layer" tool, which will make a copy of the image layer
• now this step is optional, but does make the process a little easier and less confusing
• label the above layer as "rims".
• make the "background" layer invisible, then selected the "polygonal lasso" tool
• make sure you have the "rims" layer selected, using the "polygonal lasso" tool to select the portions of the image you don't want to color such as the background, tires, body, fender well, etc
• go to image/adjustments/channel mixer and select monochrome or you can also go to image/adjustments/desaturate for a slightly different effect
• now double click on the "rims" layer or left click and select "blending style" on the pop up menu
• go to color "color overlay", make sure the box is checked, and select what color you would like to use
• now adjust the blend mode (I find color burn, soft light, or hard light works best, but play around with the blending modes yourself to find which one suits your needs the best)
• you can also adjust the opacity if you wish too
• once you are satisfied with your image, you are ready save and you're done
