DIY: Subaru Forester Fender & Antenna Removal

Difficulty Level

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• 10mm 3/8" driver socket
• penetrating oil
• 3/8" drive ratchet
• nylon trim tool
• phillips screwdriver
• 3/8" drive 6" and 3" extension
• tape
• adjustable wrench
• standard/flat screwdriver

Procedure:

• start by opening the hood on your vehicle
• when removing any bolts, they can be fragile so take extra care when removing them and also use the assistance of penetrating oil if needed
• remove the three 10mm bolts on the top side of the fender under the hood
• next remove the 10mm bolt located in the door jamb at the top corner of the fender, around the door mirror area
• remove the small plastic clip within the fender holding on the plastic body moulding on the fender
• continue to gently pull the plastic moulding back with the assistance of a nylon trim tool, it does have double faced tape holding it to the fender, along with a small plastic clip
• next pull the plastic back, it does have a certain amount of flexibility to access the one 10mm bolt behind the plastic moulding
• remove the parking light, it is held in with a phillips screw on the top just above the headlight
• pull the parking light out, then pop back the plastic trim under the headlight
• remove the 10mm located right behind the plastic headlight trim piece
• pulling the fender liner slightly out on the front side of the fender, remove the one 10mm bolt holding the bumper to the fender.
• to remove the antenna mast use a wrench
• next move the chrome four slotted nut
• carefully remove the fender from the vehicle
• sometimes applying tape to the door edge will help protect the paint
