DIY: Dodge Keyless Remote Battery Replacement & Disassembly

Tools/Supplies Needed:

• two lithium batteries model number CR2016
• coin or standard/flat screwdriver

Procedure:

• work in an area where you don't risk losing any small parts
• find a slot on the side of the case and use a coin or standard screwdriver to pry the case apart
• once apart, the battery will be exposed on the backside of the case
• the battery simply snaps into place and can be removed using your fingers
• a replacement battery is two lithium batteries model number CR2016
• to remove the circuit board and button assembly, slowly pull the rubber push pad from the case, assisting by pushing the buttons on the opposite side
• then to remove the circuit board, unwrap the push pad from around the circuit board
• reassembly in reverse of disassembly

Can I purchase the separate plastic that is between the circuit board and rubber push pad?

It might be available as an aftermarket piece when purchasing a new push pad or case assembly. If not, then find someone selling parts from the same generation of vehicle or visit your local automotive wrecking yard to purchase a used unit. Then piece the keyless entry remote together with the used parts.

Programming Procedure

1. To program a remote, turn the ignition switch to the ON position but not with the engine running
2. Press and hold the unlock button on a currently working remote for 4 to 10 seconds
3. While pressing the unlock button, press and release the panic button
4. Release the unlock button which should be followed by a chime
5. This will indicate that the module is in programming mode
6. Within 30 seconds, press and release the lock or unlock button on the new remote at the same time
7. Then do this same step for any other remotes you wish to add to the system
8. Successful programming will be indicated by a single chime.
